ISL38001M PRISM GT™ miniPCI
IEEE 802.11g, 802.11b WLAN NIC
Features
• Low cost Zero IF (ZIF) architecture
The Intersil ISL38001M WLAN NIC
(Note 1) is a complete wireless high
speed Network Interface Card (NIC).
• Fully compliant with the IEEE 802.11b and 802.11g WLAN
standards
• FCC Certified Under Part 15 (pending)
utilizing the Intersil PRISM GT chip
set. The ISL38001M is a lower cost alternative to the
ISL38000M radio. It offers improved range compared to the
ISL38000M while providing equivalent performance in other
categories. It conforms to the IEEE 802.11b and 802.11g
protocols and therefore operates in the 2.45GHz ISM
frequency band. It provides a complete reference design
evaluation platform of hardware and software to system
providers or integrators requiring wireless data
communications capability and is ideal for integration into
computer platforms.
• Support for 54, 48, 36, 24, 18, 12, 9, and 6Mbps OFDM,
11 and 5.5Mbps CCK and legacy 2 and 1Mbps data rates
®
• Driver Supports Microsoft Windows 98/SE, ME, XP and
2000 (SR1)
• Supports Dual Diversity Antennas
• Provides Wireless Data Communications to support live
video applications
• Designed to Fully Support PC Card Specification Revision

reference design, Microsoft Windows Driver, Local Area
Network evaluation software, Test Utilities (Note 3), and
documentation to get your evaluation started quickly. It
provides OFDM data rates of 54, 48, 36, 24, 18, 12, 9, and
6Mbps as well as CCK data rates of 11 and 5.5Mbps and
legacy data rates of 2 and 1Mbps. Access Points are
available from a number of suppliers, enabling a total
wireless network solution. Typical operating ranges are
shown in Table 1.
• Complete Reference Design, the ISL38001M-CD is
available to ensure minimum time-to-market
NOTES:
1. Throughout this document, all references to ‘miniPCI’, ‘WLAN
adapter’, refer to a card assembly conforming to the mechanical
size specifications of the miniPCI Type3A card.
2. The range will vary in different operating environments due to
effects such as building construction. The indoor range data
have been taken in very tough office environment with a lot of
walls between transmitter and receiver.
A complete PRISM chipset WLAN reference design package
(ISL38001M-CD) is also available. The reference design
package contains all the documentation needed for
manufacturing of the PRISM GT miniPC wireless network card
including: Cadence/Allegro Layout, Gerber files, Concept
schematic, Bill of Materials, assembly and mechanical
drawings, manufacturing test software, and even a copy of the
application for FCC equipment authorization. Customers who
license the reference design also receive password access to
Intersil’s Premier Web site for up to the minute updates on
hardware and software.
3. At present, Test utilities supports Windows 2000.
