Z02215 Single-Chip Modem
A single-chip m odem that sim plifies design
and certification
ZiLOG’s single-chip m odem is a highly integrated
m odem solution for rem ote data transm ission, transac-
tion processing, and telem etry. The DSP-based Z02215
sim plifies m odem design and PTT certifications, enabling
you to focus on application design, rather than m odem
design.
ZiLOG provides a total solution
The Z02215 includes the m odem controller, data pum p,
and analog front end, all in one package. It solves the
lengthy m odem design and approval process by taking
the guesswork out of software design. It is a m ajor
im provem ent over the previous m ethod of designing
with a separate m odem controller.

ZiLOG provides a software utility called Diplom atTM to
speed system developm ent by allowing you to m ake con-
troller code changes quickly. Param eter tables for 12
countries and CTR21 are provided, which give you a
huge advantage when doing m odem precertification test-
ing. Design and certification tim es can be reduced
50 percent or m ore by using the Z02215 and ZiLOG’s
software tools.

The Z02215 is specifically designed for transaction pro-
cessing applications such as point-of- sale and sm art
card term inals, set-top boxes, and security applications
It can also be applied to applications that require data
transm ission and reception of up to 2400bps. The
Z02215 includes a V.22bis data pum p with im proved ana-
log front end and a Z80-style m icroprocessor that serves
as the m odem controller. System costs are reduced
since all of the RAM and ROM necessary to operate the
m odem are included on-chip.
