Type 5 Sun-compatible single IC keyboard/keypad encoder  
9600 baud full duplex communication  
The USAR UR5HCSUN keyboard  
encoder is a low-power HCMOS  
microcontroller functioning as a Type 5  
Sun-compatible keyboard encoder.  
The UR5HCSUN fully implements the  
Sun Type 5 specification for keyboards  
and will provide a single IC solution for  
low-cost Sun-compatible keyboards.  
Low-power HCMOS technology  
Available in DIP, PLCC and Quad Flat packages  
Custom versions available in small and large quantities  
The UR5HCSUN will scan, debounce  
and decode an 8 X 17 contact switch  
matrix. Scanning of the matrix allows  
for multi-key rollover on low-cost

Sun-compatible keyboards  
Industrial keyboards  
contact-type matrixes, without the need  
of decoupling diodes. The UR5HCSUN  
will detect "ghost" keys and will resolve  
conflicting situations without erroneous  
data transmissions. The UR5HCSUN  
communicates with the host system  
through a full duplex 9600 baud serial  
port. It provides direct interface for four  
status LEDs and for an on-board audio  
annunciator circuit. The UR5HCSUN  
will generate the 2.2 KHz required tone  
frequency internally without the need  
for additional support hardware.

The UR5HCSUN supports the complete  
set of commands from the system,  
defined in the Type 5 specification for  
Sun keyboards. The UR5HCSUN is  
offered both in a one-time-  
programmable version for custom  
layouts and small production runs and  
a low-cost masked ROM version for  
higher volumes. The UR5HCSUN  
contains clock monitor and watchdog  
circuitry for added reliability.  
The increased functionality makes it  
ideal for reduced component count  
implementations of reliable  
Sun-compatible keyboard types of  
devices.
