Micro-power Ultra Low-Dropout Regulator in micro SMD

Package

General Description

The LP2979 is a 150 mA, fixed output voltage regulator de-

signed to provide ultra low-dropout and low noise in battery

powered applications.

Features

n Ultra low dropout voltage

n Guaranteed 150mA output current, 500 mA peak

n Smallest possible size (micro SMD package)

n Requires minimum external components

n Stable with low ESR output capacitor

Using an optimized VIP (Vertically Integrated PNP) process,

the LP2979 delivers unequalled performance in all specifica-

tions critical to battery powered designs:

n Output voltage accuracy 1%

Dropout Voltage: Typically 180 mV at 150 mA load, and

5 mV at 1mA load.

2 µA quiescent current when shut down

n 1% output voltage accuracy

Ground Pin Current: Typically 850 µA at 300 mA load, and

75 µA at 1mA load.

n Wide supply voltage range (16V max.)

n Low Z_OUT: 0.3Ω typical (10 Hz to 1 MHz)

n Over temperature/over current protection

n −40˚C to +125˚C junction temperature range

n Custom voltages available

Enhanced Stability: The LP2979 is stable with an output

capacitor ESR as low as 5 mΩ, which allows the use of ce-

ramic capacitors on the output.

Sleep Mode: Less than 2 µA quiescent current when SD pin

is pulled low.

n Cellular Phone

Smallest Possible Size: micro SMD package uses absolute

minimum board space.

n Palmtop/Laptop Computer

n Personal Digital Assistance (PDA)

n Camcorder, Personal Stereo and Camera

n Set top box, Game console

Precision Output: 1% tolerance output voltages available.

Low Noise: By adding a 10 nF bypass capacitor, output

noise can be reduced to 30 µV (typical).

Multiple voltage options, from 1.8V to 5.0V, are available.

Consult factory for custom voltages.
