na l with a 200 m s pe riod a t the 8 KHz sa mpling fre -
que nc y. (This re pre sents a single row of memory
a nd the re a re 2400 rows of me m ory in the ISD4004
series devices.) This signa l sta ys HIGH for 175 m s
a nd sta ys LOW for 25 m s whe n it re a c he s the e nd
of a row.

AUTOMUTE™ FEATURE (AM CAP)
This pin is used in c ontrolling the AutoMute fe a ture .
The AutoMute fe a ture a tte nua te s the signa l whe n
it drops be low a n inte rna lly se t thre shold. This he lps
to e lim ina te noise (with 6 dB of a tte nua tion) whe n
the re is no signa l (i.e ., during pe riods of sile nc e ). A
1 mF c a pa c itor to ground should be c onne c te d to
the AM CAP pin. This c a pa c itor be c om e s a pa rt of
a n inte rna l pe a k de te c tor whic h se nse s the signa l
a m plitude (pe a k). This pe a k le ve l is c om pa re d to
a n inte rna lly se t thre shold to de te rm ine the Auto-
Mute trip point. For la rge signa ls the AutoMute a t-
te nua tion is se t to 0 dB while 6 dB of a tte nua tion
oc c urs for sile nc e . The 1 mF c a pa c itor a lso a ffe c ts
