additional processing tasks. The ZR38601 provides an extra 20
MIPS as well as an additional 1K words of on-chip RAM. The extra
MIPS are used to produce two-channel virtual 3-D surround using
algorithms whose program and data are conveniently stored in the
on-board EPROM.
The Virtual Surround Decoder (VSD) (ZR7386001) is a stand-alone
reference design board which integrates the Zoran® ZR38600 or
ZR38601 digital audio signal processor with external components to
decode a Dolby Digital bit-stream into any one of six popular 3-D vir-
tual surround sound fields, for reproduction using a conventional
two-channel stereo amplifier and speakers. Three headphone algo-
rithms are also available which allow private listening with speaker-
like per-formance. The popular algorithms shown below may be
selected by the on-board hex switch.
Other ZR38600/1 post-decoding applications such as bass redirec-
tion, bass and treble equalization, or the creation of music modes
such as Stadium, Jazz Club, Concert, and Natural are possible. See
below for a list of the virtual surround algorithm suppliers. Zoran will
assist qualified customers with third-party licensing issues. This
proven reference design will significantly shorten the critical time-to-
market for OEM customers.
The ZR38600 is a 40 MIPS programmable digital audio signal
processor that performs Dolby Digital decoding from program
instructions located on-chip, and provides an extra 10 MIPS for
