_PHASEis greater than 0.7, D_RATIOis set to 1.0. For all other

Dimmer Tracking and Phase Measurement

cases D_RATIOis set using the following equation:

Dimmer detection and tracking algorithms depend on accurate

measurement of the V_INperiod. The period is measured during

the second AC half-cycle of the dimmer detection process and is

then latched for use. Using the measured V_INperiod in subse-

quent calculations rather than a constant value enables

automatic 50 or 60 Hz operation.

where K1 and K2 are constants with values 1.768 and 0.238

respectively.

The phase measurement algorithm uses an internal counter that

starts counting when the rising threshold on V_INis exceeded and

counts input voltage samples until the voltage is above the

threshold. The counter is synchronized with the measured V_IN

period and is restarted on every rising threshold (as shown in

Figure 6).

The output power to the LED load is modulated by D_RATIO. When

_RATIOis 1, 100 percent power is provided to the LED load, and

when D_RATIOof 0.14, 14 percent power is provided to the LED

load.

The voltage at the I_SENSEpin V_ISENSE, which modulates the

output LED current can be set at a nominal value and modulated

using the following equation:

This equation provides a mapping from the measured dimmer

phase to actual light output.

The calculated D_PHASEis then used to generate a signal D_RATIO
