惠普公司 Hewlett-Packard是世界最大的计算机公司之一，由Bill Hewlett和Dave Packard于1939 年创建。该公司制造的产品正被个人使用或用于工业、商业、工程、科学和教育等领域。HP总部设在加利福尼亚州的Palo Alto，该公司有雇员8万多人，1998财务年度营业纯收入为424亿美元。HP公司在美国许多城市以及在欧洲、亚太地区、拉丁美洲和加拿大都设有分部，在100多个国家设有大约600 个销售和支持办事处。今天，HP公司的大多数营业收入来自计算机，从掌上型计算机直到超级计算机，加上外部设备和服务。HP是世界上发展速度最快的个人计算机公司。此外，该公司还制造和服务于连网络产品以帮助客户连接HP计算机以及其它制造厂商的计算机。HP也是最大的计算机服务和支持公司之一，建立了35 个响应中心为120个提供支持服务。HP是世界第一流的打印机供应商，该公司为打印机制订技术、性能和可靠性标准，其中包括HP LaserJet和DeskJet打印机、DesignJet大格式打印机、ScanJet扫描仪、OfficeJet单体和CopyJet彩色打印－复印机。在研究方面，HP公司的中央研究机构－－惠普实验室（HP Laboratories）是世界最重要的工业研究中心之一。1997年，在HP Labs和大约70个产品分部之间，HP公司在研究和开发方面的投资达31亿美元。
