General Description  
The Supertex HV±ꢂ8 is a four-channel, monolithic, high  
ꢀoltage, high speed pulse generator1 It is designed for portable  
medical ultrasound applications1 This high ꢀoltage and high  
speed integrated circuit can also be used for piezoelectric,  
capacitiꢀe or MEMS sensing in ultrasonic nondestructiꢀe  
detection and sonar ranger applications1  
The HV±ꢂ8 consists of a controller logic interface circuit, leꢀel  
translators, MOSFET gate driꢀes and high current power P-  
channel and N-channel MOSFETs as the output stage for  
each channel1  
The output stages of each channel are designed to proꢀide  
peak output currents oꢀer ±ꢁ185 for pulsing, when in mode  
ꢂ, with up to ±±7 ꢀolt swings1 When in mode ꢁ, all the output  
stages drop the peak current to ±ꢂ00m5 for low-ꢀoltage CW  
mode operation to decrease the power consumption of the  
IC1 The P and N type of power FETs gate driꢀers are supplied  
by two floating 910VDC power supplies reference to VPP and  
V 1 This direct coupling topology of the gate driꢀers not only  
elNimN inates two high ꢀoltage capacitors per channel, but also  
makes the PCB layout easier1
