Output Current Limiting  
(same current on each output)  
When an output is overloaded above the maximum  
rating, this voltage will start to reduce to maintain the  
output power to a safe level by entering a ‘Hiccup’ mode  
of operation. The other outputs will continue to function  
normally unless they are sequenced or cascaded by the  
user. For example, in this case, if the Pgood of the  
overloaded output is connected to the enable pin of  
other outputs, they will shut down.

Double fault protection for current limit is also provided  
by primary side control for all outputs. The output  
power limit trigger level is typically 100W.

The derating curve below gives an initial indication of  
the nominal output power achievable with and without  
forced-air cooling. However, in the final application, in  
order to ensure the reliability of the unit, care must be  
taken to ensure the maximum case temperature is not  
exceeded under any conditions.  
If higher power output is required then the user  
has the option of using Thermal Lugs to dissipate  
more heat from the QNT into the customer PCB  
and thereby increase the maximum power output  
from the QNT. This may be used if there are  
asymmetrical loads, allowing that the safe working  
maximum power is observed. Further details  
available from factory.  
Thermal Considerations  
The converter is designed for natural or forced  
convection cooling. The output power of the converter  
is limited by the maximum case temperature (Tc). To  
ensure reliable long-term operation of the converters,  
and to comply with safety agency requirements, Power-  
One limits maximum allowable case or core  
temperature (Tc) to 100°C. Refer to Mechanical  
Drawings.  
Surface Mount Option  
Option “-M6”  
This option is suitable for SMT processes. It uses  
surface-mountable pins rather than standard  
plated through hole (PTH) pins. Refer to  
mechanical drawings for additional details.
