GENERAL INFORMATION

The PI-800 Ser ies atten uators are par t of the ne w Surfpac product line

featur ing good inter modulation perf ormance compared to their GaAs

counter parts for PCS/cellular base station use. In addition, the PIN

diodes of er good po wer-handling capabilities and are less sensitive to

electrostatic discharge prbo lems. Thesef eatures are impro tant con -

sider ations in base station applications where the effects of antenna-

related RFs witching and indirect lightning-inducedv oltage spki es are

present.

PIN diode componentsah ve inherent adv antageso ver the GaAs altre -

natives at PCS/cellular frequencsie . The PI-800 Ser ies atten uator

makes use of these advantages in aol w cost sufr ace-mount pac kage

suitable for pick-and-place applications . As a result, the attentuator

satisfies both the technical specifications and the manufacturing

requirements of toda y’s demanding commercial mra ketplace .

FEATURES

PIN diodes are widely accepted as more robust alter natives to GaAs

FETs and of er higher isolation with ol wer inser tion loss than plastic

packaged GaAs attne uators at P ersonal Comm unications Ser vice

(PCS) frequencies . The PI-800 Ser ies analog atten uator incor porates

PIN diodes with highly reliab le thick-film technology and sufr ace mount

components on a miniatureol w cost sealed suf r ace mount alumina

header . This new atten uator provides a good match, flat atnte uation

and overall super ior performance o ver the 0.8–4 GHz frequency

range, and can be optimzi edo ver lower frequencyr anges .
