OVERVIEW

The MC92600 Quad is a high-speed,

full-duplex, serializer/deserializer

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS

High-speed data transfer applications

in high-bandwidth backplane and

chassis-to-chassis networking

(SERDES) data interface that can be used

to transmit data between chips across a

board, through a backplane, or through

cabling. Four transceivers transmit and

receive coded data at a rate of 1.0 gigabit

per second (Gbps) through each 1.25

gigabaud link. A rich feature set makes it

easily adaptable to many broadband

applications. The MC92600 is carefully

designed for low power consumption. Its

0.25 micron CMOS implementation

nominally consumes less than 800 mW

with all links operating at full speed.

PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS

• Four full-duplex differential data links

• Receivers have three alignment modes of

operation:

• Selectable speed range: 1.25 Gbaud or 0.625

Gbaud

– Byte alignment with idle realignment

– Disparity word alignment

– Not aligned

• Low power; approximately 800 mW, under typical

conditions, while operating all transceivers at full

speed

• Received data may be clocked at the recovered

clock or the reference clock frequencies

• Internal Fibre Channel 8B/10B encoder/decoder

that may be bypassed in Ten-Bit Interface mode

• Selectable serial link impedance; 50-ohm or

75-ohm media (100- or 150-ohm differential)

• Single and double data rate, 8-bit and 10-bit LVTTL

parallel data interfaces

• Link inputs have on-chip receiver link termination

and are “hot-swap” compatible

• On-chip 50-ohm series source termination of TTL

parallel outputs

• Repeater mode configures the MC92600 Quad into

a 4-link receive-transmit repeater

• Link-to-link synchronization supports aligned,

32-bit, word transfers. Synchronization mechanism

tolerates to 40-bit times of link-to-link media delay

• Full-speed built-in self test mode for test and

on-board diagnostics
