General Description
Features
l
The GD19531 is a high performance
Transimpedance Amplifier designed for
use in telecom transmission systems for
optical networks:
signal source, an external DC source
with higher voltage may be required. De-
coupling to the filter terminal of the
GD19531 is still recommended in order
to establish the GD19531 substrate as a
solid reference point for the input signal.
Data rate up to 2.5 Gbit/s.

Typical input sensitivity: -23.5 dBm at
.
BER = 10 –9
The GD19531 can be operated from a
single +5 V power supply. It offers a
transimpedance of typically 26 kW over a
3 dB bandwidth of at least 1600 MHz. An
input current of 30 mA will drive the de-
vice output into limitation.
The input sensitivity measured at
BER = 10E-9 is better than -23 dBm.

High overload capability: 2 mAPP
maximum input current.
A separate monitor signal is available out
of the GD19531. This signal is intended
for supervision of the input DC current
without intrusion into the sensitive input
signal.
Single supply voltage: + 4.5 V to
+ 5.5 V.
The output signal is differential 800 mVPP
typical, which facilitates easy intercon-
nection to downstream clock/data recov-
ery and demultiplexer devices. The high
output voltage and built-in limiting func-
tion eliminates the need for a limiting am-
plifier in typical applications, e.g. when
used with GIGA’s GD16543 or GD16547
receivers.
Internal DC-compensation loop
increases dynamic range.
The GD19531 can be delivered in a stan-
dard SSOP-16 plastic package for PCB
mounting, or alternatively as die for inte-
gration with the PIN diode into one pack-
age. The latter will keep the high
impedance interconnection to the PIN
diode short increasing the overall band-
width and minimising noise-pickup.
